「しじみ貝」Shijimi clams from Shimane Prefecture

Shimane Prefecture has been the number one in Japan for Shijimi catches for over 10 years.
Shimane Prefecture also has the highest catch rate and average expenditure in Japan.

The Shijimi from Shimane Prefecture are incomparably larger!

In other prefectures, larger sizes are mostly sold as gifts or in high-end stores, but in Shimane Prefecture, extra-large sizes are available even at supermarkets.

Lake Shinji, where the largest number of shijimi clams are caught in Japan, has a good balance of saltwater and freshwater, providing the perfect environment for shijimi to grow.

In addition to miso soup, people of Shimane Prefecture enjoy shijimi clams in pasta, ajillo, ramen, and steamed in sake.

Doyo Shijimi are in season from May to July, Kan Shijimi from December to March
Even the largest are LL size, and fishermen sometimes eat up to 3L.
