みそ(味噌)ポテト<Miso potatoes>
Miso potatoes are a Local gourmet of the Chichibu region, made of potato tempura covered in a sweet miso sauce.
There are more than 100 restaurants serving miso potatoes in the Chichibu region alone, and this Local gourmet is even eaten as a snack at nursery schools.
The potatoes are boiled before being fried, so they are completely different from French fries, which are fried raw, and have a crispy and fluffy texture.
Some families put mild white miso on them instead of sweets, while others put sweet and salty red miso on them as a snack with alcohol.
Apparently, people have been eating potatoes with miso in between farm work since the early Showa period.
Around 1965, oil began to become common in households, and sugar also came into use. Potato tempura was made to keep you full, and sugar was mixed in to make it easier to eat than just miso, resulting in the current form!
